Adventures in moving from Orlando, FL to Portland, OR has proven how much people don’t know about staying alive when nature wants to wipe the board clean. There’s lots of advice and solutions on the internet. So, I figured I’d create the site I was seeking to prepare for the inevitable.
Who is preparing for the inevitable?
I’m Brystal Cauthen, a wife, mom, entrepreneur, and anxiety-ridden spastic creative. An acquired taste with colorful thoughts and seasoned vocabulary, I also offer a strong splash of sarcasm. My family has always been the local group everyone goes to for tips, tricks, and hacks in storm season. Culture shock isn’t a strong enough phrase when transplanting a family of four from the tropics to the PNW. Many others have experienced this, right? This blog is for Noobs in new places to Vocal Locals who can agree (or not) with these extreme prep suggestions.
Regardless of location, people scramble when nature gets angry. Growing up on an oversized sand bar puts some interesting tools in your tackle box. Then you throw yourself into the north version of home on the opposite end of the continent to make it interesting. It feels like you moved to a different country. You figure out how much you don’t know quickly! Getting to know people takes time. It gets harder when the elements decide to test you first. Planning for the inevitable doesn’t mean it’s all bad. It’s just lessening the mental load on the family cruise director so they don’t crack under pressure.
Events lead to plans…
As this family’s squirrel-brained cruise director, let me know here if I missed anything. If you think up a great topic you’d like me to chime in on, tell me that, too. Having been through about half of every natural disaster you can conjure. It’s alarming how many just aren’t prepared for nature rearing her ugly head.
(Tap the phrases as they pop up highlighted to find those posts easier.>>) Hurricanes, severe thunder storms, tropical storm winds, dancing in the rain, tornadoes, haboobs, wildfires, air quality alerts, extreme heat domes, earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis, rip tides, flash flooding, ice storms, and blizzards! Any and every event we can think up, we’ll do our best for you to prepare for the inevitable.
THANK YOU!
Life gets stressful, especially with nature chaos, so a big Thanks to you for taking a couple of minutes to digitally track me down. I’ll keep a weather eye on the horizon.
